During August, September, and October I've been able to make numerous weekend visits to my prime hunting area in the Sam Houston National Forest and am pleased with the excellent condition of the forest and the number of active ground scrapes. The volume and condition of the green vegetation browse for deer consumption is better than it has been since the 2011 drought. Last year we ended the deer hunting season (Jan 2016) with water in the forest and exceptional rains during Spring and Summer created conditions for excellent growth of green vegetation.
